Krissie Oliver, Portland Birth Doula

Krissie Oliver, Portland Doula

Birth is a transformation. Each pregnancy, whether your first or fifth, creates a profound shift as families grow, identities evolve, and new layers of resiliency and tenderness emerge. Transformation often brings its own mix of ease and challenge. Birth and parenthood are no exception. Yet, like many meaningful life transitions, the rewards of this hard work are beyond measure.

After my own birth and postpartum experience, I began supporting friends with newborns, bringing meals, offering help with household tasks, or being with the baby while the at home parent took a much needed nap or shower. Assisting during those quiet moments of care and tender early days planted the first seeds of what would later call me to pursue becoming a doula.

My goal is for each client to feel deeply supported in their personal experience, knowing that every birth holds its own unique story and wisdom. I believe that when families feel safe, informed, and connected, they are empowered to navigate the unfolding of birth with more confidence and calm.

Licensed as a massage therapist in 2008, I use my years of experience to bring body awareness, intuitive touch, and a grounding presence to my doula care. This background in bodywork and craniosacral therapy has strengthened my ability to hold space, supporting both physical comfort and emotional well-being. As a Certified Body Ready Method® (BRM®) Pro, I also integrate gentle movement and alignment practices that help prepare the body for the experience of labor and birth.

In my years as a doula, I have supported families through a wide range of birth experiences, both in and out of hospital. Whether labor starts spontaneously or through induction, is unmedicated or medicated, every birth story unfolds in its own unique way, and I consider it an honor to witness each remarkable journey. My philosophy centers on respect, communication, and trust: facilitating an environment where birthing families feel seen, safe, and empowered every step of the way.

I’m honored to be part of the Birth First Doulas Community, collaborating with other compassionate, skilled professional doulas that share my dedication to supporting families through one of life’s most profound transitions.

Body Ready Birth Classes

After becoming a Certified BRM® Pro, I continued my education and became an authorized Body Ready Birth™ teacher. These classes are a powerful complement to any childbirth education program, offering practical tools and embodied preparation for one of life’s most meaningful transitions.

In these interactive workshops, you’ll explore effective labor and birth positions, learn how to open all levels of the pelvis, support labor progression through each stage, and understand how these tools can help minimize or prevent common birth injuries. You’ll also build strength, mobility, and body awareness that support you throughout pregnancy and into postpartum.

Body Ready Birth™ classes are designed to support both body and mind through guided movement, functional positioning, and mindset strategies that help you meet labor with greater confidence and calm. Partners are encouraged to join, and together you’ll learn practical techniques that create increased comfort and promote progress, so everyone gains more confidence.

These classes are offered as a one-day in-person workshop or as a three-week virtual series, providing flexible options for families to prepare in the way that feels best for them.

Birth Doula Partnership Model

In addition to my solo doula practice, I occasionally partner with my friend and fellow doula, Keely Shea, to provide a shared-care model of doula support. Since 2024, we have supported families together, blending our complementary strengths in trauma-informed care and Body Ready Method®. Keely’s background in Reiki and my background in massage therapy also complement one another, presenting a shared approach rooted in calm, steady presence.

This partner model provides families with a wider range of tools and perspectives while maintaining the same consistency and clear communication that guide my individual practice. For some clients, the combined support of two doulas offers an added sense of continuity, grounding, and reassurance throughout pregnancy and birth.

Krissie’s Testimonials

“Our doula, Krissie, was a godsend. We had a quick and easy connection and I felt immediately comforted once my labor started knowing that she’d be there at the hospital to support us through the birth of our second child. Her masseuse background came in very handy (pun intended?) as she was able to double team with my partner to help apply just the right pressure at just the right spot during the throes of labor. We can’t recommend her more highly.”
